WTCR ASPIRANT ENGSTLER WINS IN MALAYSIA
Luca Engstler was a winner again when the latest rounds of TCR Malaysia took place at the Sepang International Circuit last weekend.
Venue of the WTCR super-finale in December, Sepang is the venue for the three-event TCR Malaysia series.
Engstler, a WTCR aspirant and Hyundai-powered racer, won Race 1 and finished second in Race 2 to keep his title hopes alive.
Having qualified his Hyundai Team Engstler entry on pole by more than 0.8s, the German youngster had been hoping for a more straightforward path to the Race 1 victory only for an overnight engine change to force him to start from sixth position.
Despite the setback, Engstler shot to third after the opening corners and was in the lead with two laps remaining for an outstanding win.
Starting from the back of the reversed grid for Race 2, Engstler made similar progress on the opening lap to run third, which became second by the end following a late safety car period as Daniel Lloyd took the victory.
Douglas Khoo, one of four wildcards at WTCR Race of Malaysia last December, was sixth and fifth in the two races driving a CUPRA TCR.
