After struggling during qualifying on Saturday in Hungary, including a spin during the late stages of Q3, Verstappen made a brilliant start to the 70-lap Grand Prix.
The four-time F1 world champion passed his way up to third place on the opening lap and fought off challenges from rivals to secure the runner-up position behind dominant winner Lando Norris of McLaren, while Drivers' Championship leader Kimi Antonelli finished third.
Behind Verstappen, his Oracle Red Bull racing team-mate Isack Hadjar drove to a solid sixth place finish, registering his seventh points-scoring Grand Prix in succession for the team.
Two positions behind in eighth, Liam Lawson was the first Visa Cash App Racing Bulls driver to cross the line after driving through the pack from outside the top 10, while his rookie team-mate Arvid Lindblad scored the final point in 10th place.
